Comox Valley Vancouver Island B.C.
The Comox Valley is dubbed as the recreation capital of Canada. Located approximately 60 miles north of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island British Columbia. You can now drive the new Inland highway, a four lane stretch with few stop lights. Or you can drive the scenic route along the water and pass through the picturesque communities of Union Bay and Royston. The Valley is a mecca for outdoor activities such as golf, skiing and boating. There are lakes and beaches for all to enjoy, just stop by the Tourist information center and pick up an area map which shows the special points of interest. The Comox Valley
consists of three separate towns, Courtenay, Comox and Cumberland. Courtenay
is the main commerce center with most services one would expect from any
small city. Comox is a short drive along the estuary, and home of CFB Comox
Air Base. Cumberland is situated west of Courtenay, just drive up the 29th
street connector and in minutes you will reach the old mining town. A local
museum displays some old artifacts of a bustling mining community which
at the turn of the century had over 10 thousand inhabitants. Drive a few
more miles west of Cumberland and you arrive at Comox lake. A very popular
spot for swimming, boating, fishing and camping. There are also many mountain
bike trails on the Courtenay side of the lake.
Some local events
during the summer months include, The music Fest 2000, Comox
nautical days, The Fillberg Festival Aug.1 to 4, and
the Courtenay Rodeo, just to mention a few. The Comox Air show will take place this year on July 27th/03. During your stay
in the Comox Valley check out some of the fine dinning establishments which the
Comox Valley has no lack of. All rights reserved & copyright© comoxvalley.netfirms.com 2000 ~ 2003 Comox, BC Canada |
